Some thoughts on UFOs

So, it turns out that the Defense Dept has been quietly studying those anomalies in the sky that appear to be UFOs. According to recent revelations in the New York Times and the Washington Post, a very low-profile DoD program investigates UFOs. That’s fine with me — with all the money the U.S. government spends, it seems worthwhile to spend a tiny sliver on watching the skies.

Count me a deep skeptic, though, for a couple of reasons. Here are two questions that I have never seen addressed in all the fuss over UFOs:

  1. Assuming that some UFOs come from another planet, why would another civilization from far, far away engineer a flying device that would be suited to the exact atmospheric conditions on Earth? Why, in other words, do “their” flying objects always work?
  2. Assuming that some UFOs come from another planet, why do we never notice them snooping around our Moon? I take it for granted that several government agencies, hundreds of major scientific groups, and thousands of amateurs keep the Moon under nearly constant suveillance. Why no anomalies up there?

If anybody knows, please leave a comment.
